On Tuesday we did a bit more harvesting in the Nyakyusa language area. Our initial trip had been planned with the Nyakyusa Community Based Organisation called AMBOBA. What we didn’t realise is that there is a second CBO (amusingly called ‘UN’, the acronym for two Nyakyusa words that I can’t remember) supposedly working in cooperation with AMBOBA, but still separate, and none of the people from that CBO had been involved in our research trip. Both CBOs had been set up by former SIL staff, though UN was mostly on the initiative of one person, while AMBOBA includes both the former translators and literacy/SE workers. It seemed wise to make sure that UN also felt involved in the process, and we knew they’d have some good stories to share, so we arranged one more harvesting meeting to listen to some of their stories.
